| East Bay General Information | Directions to our East Bay office | Click here for a map Project Open hand has been providing meals with love to people living with HIV/AIDS in the East Bay since 1989. As a matter of fact, our first day of service was October 17, 1989, the day of the Loma Prieta earthquake. That day we had originally planned to deliver nine meals, but instead we were called upon to be part of the disaster relief and fed many more people staying in temporary shelters. Today Project Open Hand has over 800 clients living in Alameda County: people living with HIV/AIDS, the homebound critically ill, and seniors. We are located on San Pablo Avenue near downtown, where we have a fully equipped Grocery Center where our HIV clients can come in and pick up nourishing groceries every week. In addition, from our San Francisco kitchen we also prepare and deliver daily hot and frozen meals to the homes of our clients and to senior sites throughout Alameda County. In this way Project Open Hand is able to offer our clients in the East Bay our complete array of services. To volunteer in the East Bay, please contact the manager at East Bay Programs at (510)622-0222. For more details, please visit the Volunteer section of our website.
