Many folks are saying that this year’s Hand to Hand was one of the best they’ve ever attended - and we agree!
Held for the first time at the stunning SF Design Center Galleria, this year’s event brought fresh energy and unforgettable moments. Guests were welcomed into the large hall and swept immediately up to the second floor to enjoy:
- A wine pull, where guests tried their luck to score high-end bottles for just $25
- An art gallery honoring Project Open Hand’s history, featuring portraits of former Project Open Hand clients painted by early-1990s volunteer Mary Starvus Stack
- Delicious h’ors d’oeuvres, as well as live music from Lucky Devils Band
- Photo opportunities
- The company of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence
- And more!

The evening’s program opened with a special video message from Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, who congratulated Project Open Hand on its 40th anniversary and wished attendees a joyful celebration: "For four decades, Project Open Hand has been a lifeline to our community. On behalf of a grateful city, thank you for feeding our neighbors, strengthening our communities, and inspiring us all with your generosity. Happy 40th Anniversary, Project Open Hand, and best wishes for a successful gala!"
Honored earlier in the evening for their significant contributions to Project Open Hand, Bonterra Organic Estates was awarded Most Outstanding Community Partner, and Jo Chew was awarded the Jon Borset Award for Service.
Emcee Sister Roma kept guests laughing and engaged throughout the evening, and auctioneer Jamie McDonald kept everyone on their toes throughout the live auction. Speakers included former Project Open Hand CEO Tom Nolan, Project Open Hand Board Chair and Vice Chair, Mike Dillon and Dr. Claire Horton, and Project Open Hand’s first chef, Fernando Castillo.
Heartfelt testimonial videos from current and former clients, volunteers, and supporters highlighted the importance of Project Open Hand’s work.
Thank you for helping to make this year’s Hand to Hand a success. We can’t wait to see you at next year’s celebration!
