Project Open Hand offers a wide variety of classes, programs, and activities to help clients learn how to take an active role in building and sustaining a healthy lifestyle. 

In March, clients can participate in one or all of the following: 

  • Meet with Project Open Hand's Registered Dietitians for a free nutrition assessment. This one-on-one session offers a time to discuss your individual nutrition needs, how to make informed food choices and tips for developing nutritious eating and physcial activity habits.

  • Attend a Nutrition Class. Do you know what it means to "eat the rainbow"? Can you build a balanced meal? What is the difference between a whole grain and a refined grain? Project Open Hand nutrition classes share fresh ideas for adding spice and variety to your diet and explain what those food labels really mean. Snacks are provided. Classes are held at Project Open Hand Grocery Center, 730 Polk Street, San Francisco, CA 94109.
    • Thursday, March 8th at 2:00 PM: "Eating the Rainbow"
    • Friday, March 16 at 2:00 PM: "Cooking If You Have Diabetes"
  • Workout for free at Friday Zumba(R) classes with San Francisco Parks and Recreation. Zumba(R) is a latin-inspired, easy-to-follow calorie burn that is a great way to get active. Come alone or bring friends! No registration required. Loose clothes and a water bottle are recommended. 
    • Note: Zumba(R) classes are held outside and are subject to cancellation due to weather.
    • Friday Zumba(R) classes are held by San Francisco Parks and Recreation at Civic Center Plaza Hardscape at 355 McAllister Street

  • Project Open Hand offers on-site food demonstrations. Discover a fresh way to prepare your favorite foods or try a seasonal produce that's new to you. The best part is enjoying tasty samples from what's on the demo menu that day. 
    • Wednesday, March 7th at 11:00 AM: Red Beans
    • Saturday March 10th at 11:00 AM: Produce
    • Tuesday, March 13th at 11:00 AM: Grits
    • Wednesday, March 15th at 11:00 AM: Black-eyed Peas
    • Wednesday, March 21st at 11 AM: Produce
    • Saturday, March 24th at 11 AM: Produce
    • Tuesday, March 27th at 11 AM: Produce
    • Thursday, March 29th at 11 AM: Split Peas
